Bush Twins To Star on Reality ShowJenna and Barbara agree to participate in "fish out of water" experiment "The Simple Life"; White House sources said to be skeptical about casting decision
The premises of "The Simple Life" is, indeed, simple. Take two young women out of their natural element and drop them into an unfamiliar environment and see what happens. The current edition has seen Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie dealing with everyday life in Altus, Arkansas, and living a lifestyle far different from that to which they are accustomed in their native Los Angeles. The sequel, set to premiere in June, 2004, will find the presidential daughters struggling with life in tiny Mart, Texas. The sale and consumption of alcohol is forbidden in Mart, which is prides itself on upholding traditional small town values. "With Paris and Nicole, we thought it would be funny to see them milking cows and making pies," said Fox producer Ed Schwartz. "With the Bush girls, we're anxious to see how they survive in a town that prohibits alcohol consumption and enforces the high moral standard that their father espouses."
"Mr. Rove is very anxious about this show," said an anonymous White House source. "What if the girls manage to smuggle in some booze and start spilling family secrets on national TV? The President's tried very hard to cover up any hint of his past drug use. What if one of those little girls gets loaded and starts reminiscing about 'the time daddy got high' or 'the time daddy came home with a hooker'. It has all the makings of a colossal embarrassment." But Fox's producer thinks these concerns are exaggerated. "They're going to be living with a family of pig farmers," said Schwartz, "and that's about as 'high on the hog' as it's going to get for them. I don't think they're going to have much success at getting tanked up and partying." |
