Religious Right Prepares To Form New "Party Of God"Franklin Graham, Controversial Son of Billy Graham, Will Lead New Party
Not surprisingly, the Party of God or "P.O.G," as some are calling it, will devote much of its time to overturning Roe v. Wade. As spokesman Franklin Graham stated, "we want to make the world safe for the unborn again so that they can in turn be born and then, with our help, become born again." The party has been wooing several prominent Republicans, most notably Senator Rick Santorum (R-Pa.). "Anyone brave enough to openly bash the gays is welcome in the Party of God," said Graham adding that he has no objection to homosexuals being every opportunity to become "straight and normal." The P.O.G. was formed as a backlash against what party leaders claim was Republican coddling of homosexuals. Many of the outspoken religious leaders were dismayed that President Bush, for example, did not endorse Senator Santorum's gay-bashing comments. Said Graham: "We would have liked to have seen the President coming out in support of Senator Santorum's comments that compared homosexuality to polygamy, bigamy, and incest. If elected, we'll continue the War on Drugs and the War on Terrorism but we'll be adding the War on Homosexuality, which will involve regularly scheduled raids on bath houses, gay bars, hair salons, and Broadway musicals."
Whatever effect the P.O.G. may have next November, it can't be good news for the G.O.P., who fear the "Nader effect" may cost Bush a re-election. "Nader torpedoed Gore," warned Graham, "and we may do the same to Bush next November." |
