Bush Debates Next Step in WarSome high level advisors suggest the President spend more time on the fundraising trail while others think Bush needs to play more golf
The Inquisitor learned this week that President Bush has been burning the candle at both ends, meeting with advisors sometimes well into the late afternoon to determine how the war in Iraq should proceed. For the past month, senior administration have gathered in the Oval Office each day promptly at noon and caucused for hours at a time to debate the course of the war. According to a senior source, the President is desparately trying to decide how his personal time could best be used in promoting peace in Iraq and creating a stable future for the war-torn country. "He's basically torn between two choices," said the senior source. "On one hand, he feels he should be out fundraising because he's going to need a lot of money to beat Dean or Kerry or Clark. On the other hand, he really feels like he could concentrate more on the whole war thingey if he was out golfing." Although the meetings are highly top secret, the Inquisitor has learned that Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld and National Security Advisor Condeleeza Rice are pushing Bush towards the campaign trail while Secretary of State Colin Powell thinks the President could best serve the men overseas by playing another few rounds of golf.
Secretary Powell, as has often been the case, strongly disagrees with Rumsfeld. "Powell feels that the President needs to golf more," said our source. "He thinks the President ought to go out and golf four or five times a week. His thought is that if the troops know that their leader is enjoying a few rounds on the links while they're out dying to protect the Iraqi oil, it will make them even that much more determined to fight hard and win the war so that they too can come home and enjoy some liesure time activities." How the latest conflict within the Bush White House will sort itself out remains to be seen. In the meantime, the President is dividing his days equally between fundraising and playing golf. |
